GINGER AND GINGER ALE FOR VOMITING

Ginger ale is one of the best for helping a upset stomach when you think you are about to vomit. I have tried this many times and it works better than meds. for me. It is said to also be good for diarrahea.
Ginger tea is good for cramps and upset stomach, sour throat and coughs. It also is good for stress and refreshes your mouth. It is very stong tho and I would not give any tea to children.  It is also good for morning sickness. Just drink a hot cup of ginger tea.
You can make ginger tea by cutting off a 1/2 inch square of giger root and peel it. Take a coffee filter and slice the ginger and put it in it and fill the coffepot with water you can add some of it also in the coffepot and let it filter thru like coffee. May not be strong enough but it is good this way. Or can add some ground ginger in the filter and make like coffee. Just have to expermient with it. Do not fill the coffeepot all the way up if it is a big one. I just use the one cup measurment on mine.

DO NOT PUT ONIONS NEAR POTATOES

Did you know that if you put onions near potatoes that the potatoes give off a gas and they will let the onions spoil quicker. Always have your onions away from your bags of potatoes. Best place to keep onions is in the ref. If they are real strong it will help lighten the taste.

LEMON FOR WEIGHT LOSS

It is said that drinking lemon water in the morning when you first get up will pull fluid out of you and let you lose the water weight. I use 1 Tablespoon fresh or 1/2 Teaspoon bottled lemon juice to 1 cup of warm water. You can feel it go thu your system. Lemons are good for you as they are rich in fiber and iron and vit. C. It is said to stop ageing better then vit. E does.
They will clean stains on copper, aluim. bronze, porcelain. Just dip a cloth in lemon juice and polish and then rinse with warm water.

STOPPING DIARRHIA

I have heard that a good strong cup of black tea will help stop diarrhia. Don't give any to kids as it would be to strong.
Also when my kids were little some of the old folks said to give them some blackberry juice.
I took one of my kids to the e.r. one time with this and the doc. was a  doc. from across the water and he told me in his country that they cooked rice and took the soup off of it and drunk it and it would help with diarrhia. I tried this and it did work. I would not give this to babys tho.

WARM MILK TO GO TO SLEEP

This is a old remedy that ole timers used to use. If you have drunk cola or coffee during the day a glass of warm will is supposed to help you go to sleep quick. May have to try this. I don't know if I could stand warm milk tho. Maybe with some strawberry syrup in it lol.

MEMORY BAD

I have heard that if you eat 7 almonds a day it will help improve your memory. I saw on tv where they eat sunflower seeds across the water for better memorny. Not the ones that have been roasted, the ones that are fresh and dehulled. I love almonds anyway so maybe I shoud start eating them more.

TEETH WHITING

Did you know that strawberries is supposed to whiten your teeth. Rub some on your teeth every day for a week. Brush your teeth afterwards. These have to be fresh strawberries. Have not tried it but I heard it will work.
I do know that orange peel when rubbed on your teeth will clean them. The oil in the orange hull, the orange part will clean your teeth and make them feel so fresh. To strong for a child to try tho. The oil is bitter.

TOOTH ACHE PAIN

If you have a tooth ache and don't have anything to use for it try putting a whole clove(spice) on it. I have done this and it works. Bite the clove but it is very bitter and release some of the juice. I have even put some ground cloves on my tooth. It will numb it and reduce the pain. Hold the clove in place by using your finger on the outside of your cheek. Do not swollow the clove. I would not let a child use this tho as it is two strong for them. Hold on the tooth for around 30 minutes then spit it out. It will work. It has the same effect as the stuff they numb your teeth with.

HERMAN THE MONKEY AND THE APPLE TREES

While sitting here looking at my blog I got to thinking about my father-in-law who has passed on. I am all the time writing about him as he was so funny. Now most people can't get alone with their in laws but he was just like my dad. We never did have a unkind word to say to each other. He was always as good to me as his son.
I was thinking about a monkey that one of his friends had given him. His name was Herman and I believe that had to be one of the most meanest creatures going. My father-in-law was a animal lover and you would never know what would turn up at his front door. I have seen him many times take care of a bird or dog, etc. that someone had sit off to die and get it well again.
Anyway, this monkey was just a small beige one with a big and I mean big long tail. He had it in a cage in the hall way and ever time he would pass by it it would reach out and grab his pencils or pins that he carried in his pocket. That would really make him mad but he still kept it. One day someone left the cage open and Herman got out. Oh, boy what a time it was. He tried to catch him, his wife tried, my husband and no one could get him. He would go from room to room swinging. So Herman got mad because everyone was after him. All at once we heard the biggest noise in the back bedroom. He had throwed a lamp I believe. Next came my mother-in-laws home interior figurines. Pictures went sailing off the wall and I mean he was demolishing that bedroom. So since no one could catch him I believe they opened up a window and out he went. Where did he go, down to my father-in-laws apple trees. Now no one was allowed to touch those apple trees. We all went running down in the back yard and here went Herman climbing higher and knocking off all of the green apples. By that time all of us was mad because it was one of the old time Lock apple treees and the best one they had. We called, begged, got him something he liked to eat to no adveil. So we all went back up to the house,  left the window open and a little later in came Herman, got in his cage and shut the door. Now isn't that just like a monkey.
He took him to a pet shop and the man bought him. He was at the mall and saw a monkey all dressed up riding a bicycle on a tightrope. Now who do you think it was, Herman.
That just goes to show you some people can tame anything. His wife told him that was one animal that he would never have another one like it in the house.
Talk about having a mess to clean up we did. We had enough apples left to put some in the freezer but the ground was covered in little green apples that day. They were to little to be ate with a salt shaker like we all liked to sneak and do. If he only knew how many times we all would sneak and eat them that would be something because no one was allowed to touch them until they were red. A few years ago lightening hit the tree and uprooted it. It was one of the best apple tree around and the apples were not good until the first frost hit them. We all miss Herman and the apple tree and my father-in-law. But don't never get a monkey for a pet unless you raise it from a tiny baby up where you can teach him to be gentle and mind..........

COKE-COLA CAKE

All of us know how a good ole Coke will tendrize meat but here is a recipe for a Coke-Cola cake that is so good. Do not use any diet coke in this recipe.

1 Box White Cake Mix
4 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
8 Tablespoons(1 stick) Blue Bonnet Marg., melted
1 Cup Coke-Cola
1/2 Cup Buttermilk
2 Large Eggs
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
11/2 Cups Marshmallows
Frosting:
8 Tablespoons(1 stick) Blue Bonnet marg.
4 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1/3 Cup Coke-cola
4 Cups Powdered Sugar, sifted
1 Cup Chopped Pecans

Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 13 x 9 cake pan. Set the pan aside.
Put the cake mix, cocoa powder, melted butter, cola, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla in a bowl. Mix with a electric mixer for 1 minute. Scrape down the sides with a spatula. Increase the speed to medium and beat 2 minutes. The batter should be well blended. Fold in the marshmallows. Pour into pan and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until it comes away from the side. Frost the cake while still warm.

Frosting: Place the butter in a saucpan as it melts, stir in the cocoa powder and the cola. Let the mixture come to just a boil, stirring constantly and then remove from the heat. Stir in the powdered sugar until it is thick and smooth. Fold in the pecans. Spread the frosting on top of the cake and let it go out to the sides. Let cake cool 30 minutes before serving it.

CHICKEN SPAGHETTI CASSEROLE

A friend gave me this new recipe and it looks so good. I can't wait to make it. It would be good for a family or church homecoming.

1 Cup Chopped Celery
1 Medium Green Pepper, chopped
1 Medium Onion, chopped
1/4 Cup Butter or Blue Bonnet marg.
1 Can (10-3/4)oz. Can Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup, undiluted
1 Can(10-3/4)oz. Can Condensed Cream Of Chicken Soup, undiluted
1 Can (10)oz. Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilies, undrained
8 oz. Velvetta Cheese Product, cubed
3 Cups Cubed Cooked Chicken
1 Box (14.5)oz. Spaghetti, cooked
1 Pack Cheddar Cheese or Moz., shredded
1 Sleeve Ritz Crackers, crushed

In a skillet, saute the celery, green pepper and onion in butter until tender. Can add some fresh mushrooms or 1 small can, drained. Add to celery mixture. Stir in the soup, tomatoes and cheese. Cook over low heat until the cheese is melted. Stir in the chicken and spaghetti. Transfer to a sprayed 13 x 9 baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until heated through.
The celery, green pepper and onion-you can vary this. If you don't have all of this just use the onion. On the top you can crumble up some Ritz crackers and add to the top along with the shredded cheese. You can use a rotisserie chicken but can just boil some chicken breasts or strips until done and chop up. Do not let the cheese scorch on top and if not using cheese don't let the Ritz scorch on top.

SOUP BEANS AND FRIED CORNBREAD?

Now everyone knows how all of us ole Ky. people love a big bowl of soupbeans with that ham hock or pork fat floating around in the kettle just begging to be got out and ate. But have you ever ate soup beans with fried cornbread.
I had never heard of this until one of my friends was telling me about it. I always bake a big pan of cornbread but never any fried cornbread with this.
How to make fried cornbread. Just make up a small amount of a cornbread recipe and instead of putting it in a pan fry it on the stovetop. I like to use 1 cup cornmeal, 1/4 cup self-rising flour, 1 egg, beaten and milk to make a medium thickness or like pancake batter.
Then take a heavy skillet, I like to use my iron skillet for frying cornbread and put some oil in it and put on medium heat as you do not want them to burn when you pour the batter in.
Make you about three cornbread cakes and fry on one side until they bubble around the edge then flip them over and fry on the other side. May have to add some more of that oil. Use up the rest of the batter.
When done put them on a plate and get your beans out in a bowl and crumble two of the cakes into the beans. Or more bread if you like.
Now what else do you need, of course some of that good ole Kraft mayo to stir in with the beans and you are set for a very good eating.
Oh, I forgot that big ole piece of sweet onion and plenty of toothpaste after you eat. lol. Try it, I am going to this week. Any that you don't put in the beans just eat with plenty of butter on top of them.
My husband loves fried cornbread in a bowl, cooled, with milk in the bowl and eat like milk and bread.
Now me, I just don't care for that but I love the butter on top of them and just eat them by their-self or have some of them good Amish molasses to stir up in some butter to eat with them. Good eating.........

EARLY FATHER'S DAY AT FAMOUS DAVE'S

While visiting down in Nashville our son took all of us to Famous Dave's for his dad's father's day meal. That was the first time I had ate anything there except the lunch menu. It was all so good. My husband just went on about the brisket how tender it was. I loved the mac and cheese and of course I will have to find a recipe like it to put on here. I loved the ribs. They had a BBQ sauce which was Sweet and Sassy that I loved. I went and bought some of it at Kroger's. I can't find it up here where we live. It is so good to dip the ribs and chicken in even tho they have BBQ sauce on them. We loved the frys that was served with the food so my son found some of them at Trader Joe's which we do not have around here also.
It is a really good place to go eat with a large family. I am not trying to promote it in any way but the food was all so good. My husband had never ate there before and he sure did enjoy it. So this father's day take your dad out to eat. I sure wish mine was alive to do this with. You really don't know how much you miss them until they are gone.

LET GOD WATER THE GARDEN

A few years back we had a garden that was so big it took us two days just to hoe it out. It was a bottom where the river had been over it and you could not find a rock to even drive a stake in the ground. Talk about raising corn everyone begged for our corn and greasy beans. We had worked so hard and no rain in sight and our corn and beans was drying up. We decided to get some water hoses and connect them and try watering the garden.
How many hoses I am talking about maybe 10 of them each fifty foot long. So here we went and got them all hooked up for the next day to try to water it in the early morning.
My dad, being a preacher kept saying why not let God water the garden. I said daddy there is no rain in sight and we have got to get it watered. Why not ask him. Oh yea of little faith. I told him we would just let him do the asking as I really did not believe it would happen as it was just to hot.
We all went to bed that night and no rain and it still hot. But,............
all at once it started pouring the rain, I mean like it was going to flood. We could not believe this. It rained most of all that night. It cooled the air off and have you ever smelled anything more better that a good rain. We slept like babies. The next morning we all got up. So my dad had to rub it in. What did I tell you just ask God for rain. He is big enough to do this for you. I told you, that you would not need all of those water hoses. So we had to reroll them all back up. We went down to the garden and marred up in the dirt it was so wet. There were puddles everywhere. It took it a week to dry up. Our corn and beans made it thanks to God and daddys faith. My dad is gone now but I still remember every time it comes spring and we have a garden about how God watered our garden for us.

SOMETHING NEW ABOUT MAKING DUMPLINGS

After making my son-in-law a kettle of dumplings enough to feed a homecoming, lol. I thought I would post what I had seen on a cooking show about making dumplings.
I have made them for years but guess it is never to late to learn something new.
After you get the dumplings cut out with a pizza cutter and start to put them in the kettle, have a bowl of flour beside them and put them in the flour and then swirl around with your hand and then take them out and put in the kettle one by one. The chef said that they would not stick together. I tried this and it seems to work.
I always try to make more than I  should really and sometimes they want to stick together. Always have
plenty of broth so you will not crowd the dumplings. If they get to thick when you re-warm them up take some out of the kettle and put in a smaller kettle and add some water to them and then re-warm. Watch and don't let them burn on the bottom.
People don't realize how long it takes to make a big kettle of dumplings for a homecoming. So when at one eat them all and don't throw any away. Most times it takes at least 2 hours or longer. My aunt is our noted dumpling maker for our homecoming and she mades one of the big canners full most times. So it takes her around 4 hours to make them.
I learned the hard way to never put your chicken in your dumplings until they are all made and you have turned them off. Gently stir it in the kettle.
Then put the chicken in. If putting it in while cooking it will go to shreds most of the time.
Also have a tube of yellow food coloring on hand to make them look like you killed a fresh chicken. lol. Just take a toothpick and get a little on it and swirl around in the chicken broth. If using the liquid use around 3 drops. Don't use to much or it sure will look fake and don't be like me be in a hurry and get out the red food coloring like I did  for a church homecoming and have you a big kettle of bright red dumplings. They have never let me live this down. All my time wasted and no big pot of dumplings. lol.
My hubby ask me how do I get them so yellow so I just had to tell him my secret. He sure knew I didn't have any fresh chickens. He could not believe I used food coloring in them. More power to all of us cooks.
I have a new nickname for my son-in-law, Little Dumpling. lol.
