The up coming West 80 Yard Sale that goes from Somerset, Ky. Up thru London and on into Manchester, Ky. is beginning on Aug. 29 thru Sept. 2 this  year for 2013. If you live close then start on Friday. We always go on Sat. But get there around seven as there are so many people at this sale. They always have good children and baby clothes a lot of them new. Some of the churches set up and sell hot dogs, chips and pops. Make sure to take cold drinks as it gets so hot. Also use the bathroom b enforce you begin because a lot of the area do not have any stores with bathrooms. There is a Dollar General about half way where you can go to the bathroom and buy cold drinks and snacks. Also visit the Amish market on the right side of the road heading toward Manchester. They have fresh Vegas. And al kinds of soup mixes, dip mixes, jellys, cheese, meats, We love the pimento cheese. It is a deli cheese and they have fresh brown eggs also. It is in a beige tin building and called Willow Market. They have a sign beside the road. Not trying to promote it but it is so clean and they also have bathrooms. Try some of the veg, soup or chili mix. We love it. Be careful driving and wear your seatbelt as there is so much traffic.

Lift up your foot, Laughing at my daughter

My son had bought my daughter a sewing machine for Christmas around two years ago and with her moving she had put it up. So he ask if she had used it yet. No, she told him. So he told her to bring it over with her when she came to visit him.

As he is a quilter he was going to show her how to thread up her machine. Of course now days most everything comes with a dvd to show you how to operate what you buy.

Since she had never opened the box she did not even know it was in there.
So they put in on and he was showing her how to thread it along with the dvd.

They got some material out for her to practice on. She came to the end of the material and he told her to lift up the foot so she could get the material out from under the plate.

She told him she had her foot lifted and he said no you don't so this went on for a few minutes as he was sitting beside her and could see the presser foot was not lifted.

What was she doing, lol, lifting her foot up off of the paddle that lets it run. We all looked down and there she was had her foot up in the air.

Talking about laughing we did. That was a good one.
So if you are sewing and don't know what a foot it it is the part where the needle goes down into the plate and you let the back handle down to hold the material in place. Just don't lift up your big foot off of the paddle lol.......

WHAT WILL SHE SAY NEXT (LOL)

We all love Dr.Oz. There is just so much you can learn from him. Even the little ones love him.
My grandaughter came running to her mom the other day and said mom I am not feeling good. So she ask what was hurting her and she said I am hurting here. So she pointed to where her breast is supposed to be.
My daughter said are you hurting bad and she said yes. So she lifts up her shirt and could not see nothing wrong with her.
I think I need to go to ER. Why, because I think I have got breast cancer. Breast cancer, how can you have breast cancer when you don't even have any breast yet. I was watching Dr. Oz and I think I have got breast cancer like he was talking about.
So she kept telling her she was all right and she then went outside and started playing.
How many times do we watch a medical program and think we have got just what they are talking about, if you are like me almost every time. lol.

T. J. MAX BAGS

If you like to shop at T.J. Max like I do you are going there ever chance you can get. lol. I am not trying to promote these shopping bags but I love to buy these to keep in the car to put my grocery's in instead of having to carry so many bags up the steps.
With having a garden they are so good to put all your beans in or cucumbers you have picked.
I have a load from my jungle that I have created. They will even hold 4 dozen ears of corn and will not rip. This is so much better than the plastic Kroger or Walmart bags we always collect. They come in all kinds of colors and you can find them up front at the checkouts. So for .99 grab you some the next time you are there.
You can even use them for shower gifts or for birthday gifts. They are good also to hold toys or clothes.

NEW WAY TO PLANT TOMATOES

I know it is to late now to plant tomatoes but I learned something this year about planting them.
One of our friends was telling me about how he ask a friend how he raised such big tomatoes. Now me. I put everything on mine trying to get them to grow. So this friend took him and showed him his tomato patch.
He had planted his tomatoes in his corn. Why, because the corn will shade the tomatoes and they will not get the blossom end rot. Mine done this last year. There the tomato was almost ripe and then it stared rotting on the bottom. This year I am going to put some crushed Tums in some water and pour around them.
I was looking at another friends garden and they had their tomatoes planted with two rows of corn on each side of them not in with the corn but out in a row and had cucumbers planted on one side along with the tomatoes. They had planted the German Queen Tomatoes and boy were they big.
I went to the flea market Sat. and they had them there for 1.50 a lb. Now one of those tomatoes will weight at leat 2 lbs. and I wanted one so bad but that was just to much so I just bought me a basket of yellow tomatoes. But have you ever wanted something so bad you can taste it in your mouth.
There is nothing better then a big thick slice of German Queen tomato with salt on it and mayo and bread and make a tomato sandwich. I love mine with Durkee mayo. The dollar tree has a small jar there for a dollar if your family is like mine and just will only use Mircle Whip. lol.

DOG'S ON A DIET

My poor ole granddog's is having to cut back and go on a diet thanks to grandmaw. While I was having to sit with them for 2 weeks I sure did not know I had made them gain weight. lol.
Now how can you eat, when you have two granddog's sitting watching every bite you take. Now me, I just can't stand to not be able to give them some human food, so I guess I just got sorry for them and overfed them with their soft and meaty dog food packs. lol.
My son and the family are on WW. and now the dogs have to go on a diet with them. He called and had them out walking tonight. I told him it was just to hot to walk them but it had cooled down so I hope they did not get to hot.
Those yorkie's are somthing else. They are so scared of lighting. They shake just like kids and get so scared and want to be covered up. So here came a big storm thru and here they came trembling and wanted me to hide them so I had to go find a throw to cover them up and it just helped a little bit. I wonder if all dogs are like that.
I hope every thing turns out all right for Port. He has a tumor on his gum and is going to have to be put to sleep to have it removed. We just lost our older granddog last year to cancer and I sure hope this is not to serious with him. We also lost two more yorkies.
One thing for sure if you live where buzzards are don't let them out in the yard unless you are with them. My son let them out in his back yard and down came a buzzard and tried to get one of them so from then on he had to watch them close. Most people don't realize that a buzzard will get a little yorkie as they must think they are a rabbit. So keep a close watch on them when they are out in the yard.
I wonder if they will be put on the scales and weighted like everyone else to see how much weight they have lost. lol. With doggie candy and doggie cookies and doggie ice cream out now no wonder they gain weight. lol......

NEW DELI MEATS AT WALMART

If you are like me, always trying something new, then here is a new meat that has been added in the deli at most Walmarts. I am not trying to promote it but it is good to have a new meat for a sandwich now and then.
The meats are made by Eckrich and they have bacon in them. They have one that is ranch bacon chicken that I love, love, love. It may be a little salty but with the bread and tomato and lettuce it will even it out. They also have two more that is bacon wrapped ham and peppered bacon covered roast beef and applewood smoked turkey breast with bacon. I have not tried but the ranch chicken and like I said it is so good. It sells for around $5.00 a lb.

Bacon Ranch Chicken Breast for 2oz. is 80 calories
Peppered Bacon Covered Roast beef for 2 oz. is 70 calories
Bacon Covered Ham for 2 oz. is 100 calories
Bacon Covered CLub Deli Meat for 2 oz. is 80 calories

I think the calories are not two bad knowing it has bacon in it and the ranch chicken you can see the bacon all thru it.

MY POOR OLE HUBBY

While we were dog sitting for our son my hubby was sleeping in the guest bedroom for a nap and would you believe he fell out of the bed. lol. I know it is not funny but just to here him tell it is. lol.
The bed is one of those that is high. My son really needs to get a set of steps for it.
So he turned around to get out of bed being not to tall and flipped out, hit the bed rail with his head and then if that was not enough hit the table that had the alarm clock on it and down came the clock on top of his head. He sure must have a hard head. He said it about knocked him out. So if you have a high bed make sure and get you a set of steps for it.
Maybe that is why he has been acting strange since we got home.lol.
Now dumb me would fall over the steps trying to get to the bed or fall off of the steps getting in the bed. lol........

QUILT SHOP AT CHAPELL HILL, TN.

If you love to sew or quilt there is a little quilt shop that is located at Chapell, Tn. across from O'Riley's that has some of the most lovely quilts I have ever saw. They have such beautiful colors in them. They also sell material there for quilting and for making the cloth purses and baby blanket kits.
All the ladies there are so friendly and make you feel so welcome while shopping. So if you are ever down in that area be sure and stop by.
If you like farm fresh brown eggs, they have plenty of those to and believe me they are so good. The yellows are so good and rich.
Just make sure you bring somthing to put them in and I am sure if you have any empty egg cartons that you throw away they would appricate them.
Just make sure of one thing, put them in a safe place like in the floor board of the car and don't do like we did and about wreck on the way home and have unfried eggs everwhere in the car to clean up and get rid of the egg smell in one hundred degree weather lol.....

SO GLAD TO BE ALIVE

After going down to one of my sons fave places at Chapel Hill,Tn. Little did we know on the way back that we would almost get killed on the way back home.
We had went out to one of his friends homes to get some farm fresh eggs and was on our way back home and getting ready to cut off of the exit when a lady in front of us must have missed her road and stopped in the middle of the exit.
There was a semi-truck behind us and one on the side. He could not get in the other lane to swrive and miss her.
So it looked like we were going to take the whole side of her car out but thank God there was just enough room to squeeze by and not let the semi-truck hit us on the left side. I still don't know how he did it.
Well so much for our eggs as most of them got broke where he had to put on his brakes so hard. I just thank God that we are still alive today......

'WAVE'' EVERYBODY START WAVING

Wave, wave everybody, wave now what are we waving at. lol.

While going down thru Nashville my crazy son had to pull one on me and his sister. He was in the back seat and started saying wave, wave.

So what did we do start waving. Now we looked like a bunch of fools going down the road waving at what? I ask him what are we waving at.
There was no one we knew beside of us on the interstate so what were we waving at.
The wave pool, a place for the kids to go play at was on the hill as we went by. lol.

He was in the back seat dyeing laughing and us up front waving to beat ninety. I guess the ones going by us thought we were drugged or drunk one. He got a good one on us.
He said they pull that on everyone. So if you are going down the interstate before you get to opry mills just start waving. Thank god no one knew us. lol.

PAY ATTENTION TO WHO IS AROUND YOU

I was in one of our stores this past week and was just looking around at some garden stuff to put out side in my flower garden when I noticed a boy walking in back of me.
I really did not think much about it. But I went up the other asile and I heard someone talking loud.
Put your hands up. Put your hands up. I thought what in the world is happening.
Then I heard them say put your hands behind your back. So I knew I had just came up that asile and the man was in that asile.
I walked to the front of it and there was a policeman with the man who was in back of me, leading him out down the asile with handcuffs on. Then I looked and there were three more policemen up front.
So it really pays to notice who is around you and you really need to have someone with you when out shoping.
That was the first time in a good while that I had free time to just go and take my time and look at different things. Then this happens.
It sure did scare me. From now on I will sure be watching when someone walks behind me. Even tho there may be people in the store you never know this day and time what can happen.

BLACK PEPPER

In this wonderful world of eating, baking and cooking we have three things that we use almost ever day and those are salt, sugar and of course black pepper.
Have you noticed the price of a can of black pepper recently. I cannot believe how much it has went up.
One of my friends was telling me about watching one of the chef's on t.v. and how she was talking about black pepper. How that if you start grinding your own from the black peppercorns you will not want to go out and buy a can of black pepper again.
Now me, I have to have my eggs almost black with pepper and also those good ole pork chops. Have you ever just salted and peppered your pork chops and fry them slow and I mean slow, with  black pepper on them. Wish I had me two right now. lol. So after watching Paula with her battery powered pepper machine of course, I had to have me one.
So my hubby had gave me some money for my birthday, I think, lol. and I just had to go find me a pepper grinder. I looked everwhere for one and could not find a battery powered one. So I was in a T. J. Max looking for one, after going to different ones and I came across one that was rechargeable.
I looked at the price and could not believe it. I looked again, thinking I needed to bring our my glasses and take another look at the price but it was the same as the first time. $40.00.
Good grief, I never saw any gold on it any where for that price. So I began reading about it and thought well I want one, I have the money and I am just going to splurge and get it.
Believe me I sure have not regretted getting it one time.  Like the chef's say if you grind your own pepper it has such a different taste and is so fresh.
So trust me, go and find you one online and get you one. If you just want to try and see if you would like it first, they now have the pepper grinders that you just twist the tops around and work just as good with the peppercorns already in them.
If you buy peppercorns get the ones that have almost all black ones. They taste better than the ones with a lot of red peppercorns in them.
Me, I use so much pepper I would go through one of those in two weeks. lol.
Mine runs down so quick that I am now glad that I bought one that recharges because I sure would be out a lot buying batteries for one.
Everyone gets a kick out of how I can eat so much pepper on stuff and not have to grab a glass of water or soda. If you have sinus trouble it will sure open them up. I guess that is why I eat so much. lol. Don't have to take meds for this. When they come around at the restaurant to grind you some everyone wonders when I am going to say stop, that is enough. lol. I just let them keep on grinding.
So my next thing I would love to have is one of the new type pod coffee makers that just makes one cup from the pod. But with them costing $150.00 I think I will just keep looking. May find a new one at the Nashville, Tn. yard sales. Those are like going Trick Or Treating for adults.
Never know what new stuff you will find and believe me you can really find good clean new stuff. I love to go and find cookbooks and books to read. You come across gadgets for the kitchen that you neever have heard of.
Sullivin Farms and Chandler Creek is so good you just wish you had a week to look at all the stuff. I just wish they would not close them down so early. You can't be at two places at once and both are so good and so huge that you can't get thru them in one day. More and more people are bringing their trucks and trailers to them now as you can find so many good bargins and nothing is priced to high. Can't wait to spring. lol.......

NEW KINDLE FIRE

Now how many have the new kindle fire. It is just not for the young at heart but for us ole grandma's and grandpa's to. It can be put down in the new large, large purses we are all carrying and take it with us very where we go if we want.
My son got US one for Christmas. And I did say us. But let me tell you my husband will not let me pick it up as he is always on it in the evening after work. Oh yea, we love the games and of course all the good books. Now me I am a book reader. Have been every since I was in school around 30 years ago. Has it really been that long? lol.
I remember when the pin lights first came out. I worked and bought me one. My parents would not let me stay up and read late at night as it might keep me from making good grades in school. We never had a tv back then and piano  and a book and my dog was all I had to pass the time.
So when these pin lights came out I had it made.
I would turn off the light and read by my pin light and don't ask me how many batteries I used up. lol.
Mom and dad never knew because they did not see my light on.
I am going to make a sub listing for new games we find that are good to put on the kindle fire and the books I have read that are good.
I read most romance books. I just love those even tho I am getting old enough to soon die out.  I love the Love Inspired ones and the ones about the Lord's and Ladies over in England.
My husband loves mysteries. Reading can take you to so many places also, that you can not get out and go to and learn about so many of the other countries and their customs and of course food.
So just keep a watch out for the listing. Let me tell you one thing. I love the parking lot game on kindle fire. I have drove ever since I was 16 and know how to park cars. It will rack your brain trying to park these cars on the kindle fire. But I always come thru. lol.

Alabama Freezer JAM

How many times have we heard the ole saying "It is finger licking good". Now most times we are talking about that good KFC chicken. But to me there are more good things than just it. Going down the road eating a half melted Hershey bar and trying to not get it on your top and still trying to get that last bite of choc. and then looking in the mirror and see you mouth all brown with that choc. Now that is what you call good. Of course I just love choc. in any fashion or form. Do you still remember taking the kids and now the grandkids to Wendy's for that order of fries dipped down in that frosty. Heaven. lol.

We went and stayed all night over at our daughter's house and they had got some fresh eggs from Alb. and her pastor's wife had given her some freezer jam. So that called for a good good breakfast.
Now me I love the eggland eggs since they are so much like the fresh farm ones but with the chickens going on strike during the winter and not laying that much they are just to pricey for me. But if you have a Food City in your area, trust me grab a blue carton of their brand eggs. They are as close to fresh farm eggs as they come.

Any way we made some toast and scrambled some eggs and by the way do you know how to get your eggs fluffy. Put around a 1/2 teaspoon of water in them like Paula Deen does. It will make a difference. Or you can use a little milk.

Then here she pulled out this homemade freezer jam of course it was strawberry. You know what those little bowls from KFC that has the mashed potatoes in them are good for. Fixing freezer jam in them or you can get the small round ones from hefty or glad. This jam had big chunks of fresh strawberries in it and boy was it good. It is not like jam out of the jar. It  is more like a spread.

I have heard of making freezer jam but have not ever tried to make it. But I sure will now. Just don't be on a diet because I think it uses around 7 cups of sugar. And I think two boxes of the quart size strawberries. Now me, I cannot keep fresh strawberries over one day or they began to mold. Got to do a search and see what to do about that for everyone.

If you get time make sure you make some of this jam. We called her and she said the recipe was inside on the paper that comes with the sure jell located in the canning dept. at Kroger or Walmart. Trust me it will be worth your time to make some. Just don't be on a diet as you can't stop eating just one piece of toast with it. We could all use diet bread and make up for all those calories that are in it. lol. I will look for a good recipe to post for it.

DON'T SALT THE BEANS

We all know that when you want to cook up a big kettle of pino beans you look them, wash them and let them sit in water overnight to reduce the cooking time.
One of my friends wanted to cook a kettle of beans on a gas stove. Now to me gas cooks way quicker than electric. She fixed her beans and cooked them and cooked them and it went around 5 hours and they still was not done. Now this in on a gas stove.
What could have happened, we all know a bean is a bean. We all have our fav. brands of pinto beans. I like Walmart brand or the one that Walmrt sells in the spring that is loose in a big barrel. To me they are the best.
Well, I just wonder if she added her salt while the beans were cooking. That sure sounds like she did.
You can cook a pot of beans for 10 hours and they still will not get done if you add salt at the beginning of the cooking. Me, I learned the hard way so that is why I know that beans will not cook up done if you add your salt then.
We also put our seasoning in our beans at the beginning of the cook time. Just this past year, I learned from my daughter that you put your sliced salt bacon in around 30 minutes before the beans are done. Now me, I have been cooking for around 35 years. Her, around 10 years. lol. So ole mom can learn something new to. lol.
Add your salt at the end of the cooking. Stir it in good and retaste. Sometimes if it is not stirred good you will add more salt and get them to salty. I also put a stick of Blue Bonnet in mine at the beganing of cooking and just a little oil. Oh, yeah, I know fattening along with the salt bacon.
If you use the chunk of salt bacon then I guess you could put it in at the beginning  as always.
So back to the cooking time. I just wonder if her gas stove is like my sons new one that he got. It has one burner that will not get hot. Oh, he got mad and said it was not working right and called out the service dept. because he had just bought the stove. What did they tell him, The back burner is for simmering and will not get hot as the other five burners, and the one in the middle, is for boiling and gets hotter then all the burners. Maybe we all are not to old to learn new things.
By the way if you have a self cleaning double ovens, do not stop them in the cleaning cycle as it will mess it up big time also. Guess who done that,,,,, him also. lol. He has been cooking for 20 years. He is one great cook and should have went on and made a chef. But he will not put none of his recipes on here hardly at all. They are most from all our other kin and friends. When you have a big family like ours, someone is always fixing something new and this blog is mosly just to keep them so we wont lose them .  When msn shut down our website we had to create another one to keep up with all of them. Anyone is more than welcome to view them or add them to their blogs. We are just southern country cooks that reallllly love to cook.....

WHEN THE DOCTOR SAYS "THAT'S IT"

With my daughter's birthday being yesterday, my mind goes back to when she was around 3 months old. She got sick and would not take her bottle. I took her to the doctor and he wanted to do some blood work on her. So later that day he called and ask if we could take her to Knoxville. We wanted to know what was wrong and he told us he would talk to us when we got back in the office. So we packed some clothes and went on over to the doctor.
He told us that she looked like she had a type of whooping cough syndrome. She would cough so hard she would almost lose her breath. She could not keep any milk down and no water. We then went on to Knoxville to the hospital.
They hooked her up to all kinds of monitors and took away her milk and put her on gatorade. She could not keep it down.
They would not let us go out of the room and when they came in they had to wear gowns and masks. So they done more test and then ruled that out. But she still could not eat. She was losing weight and getting weak.
They kept running tests and could not find what the problem was. So on a Sunday moring the dr. came in and talked to me. He told me he did not know what else to do and he had done all he could do for her. Thirty three years ago they did not have all the equipment they have now.
I looked at her, as she was such a pretty baby and thought am I going to lose her. I had packed her some outfits and put them on her each day as I thought if my baby is going to die, then at least she can wear some of her pretty clothes she had got at a shower. I called my mother-in-law and told her what the dr. had just came in and told me. They were having church on Sunday at the church where we lived at. So my mother-in-law got them to pray over a prayer cloth for her.
I had got sick while over there and was running a fever and my throat was almost swelled together. There was no one to stay with her, but me ,as my husband had to work in the mines and we lived a long way. I  did not have any meds to take and could not go get any as I did not have a car with me. There was a big snow on.
So around two that day I was sitting in a chair by the window and was so sick and all at once I felt a warm wind come through the window. I looked to see if the window had come open. It came to me and I felt it as it went from my head to my feet and I thought what was that, and then I looked and seen my daughters dress blowing. It went to her bed and when I looked at her face, there was a glow over her body and you could see it. It went from her head down to her feet and disappeared  at the foot of her bed.
I got to looking and she was waving her arms and going on and gooing. I noticed that my throat was no longer sore and I did no longer have a fever.
My mothr-in-law called and told me they had prayed over a prayer cloth and that my husband was going to bring it over to us. I told her I did not need it because Jesus had already came to the room and had healed me and my baby. I told her what I had seen and what had happened. I started crying as I knew my baby was healed.
So I called to the nurse and told them to bring my baby a bottle. She took it and it stayed down. And later on she drunk another one, it stayed down. The monitors never went off no more. They did not know what to think..
The next morning the doctor came in and I told him do you believe in prayer, and he said Oh, Yes. So I told him what had happened and he looked at her laying there laughing and going on and he said I sure do believe you and somthing sure has changed. I ask could I go home ,and he said I will write out the orders for you as there as been a miracle in this room. That was the end of it. She is healthy as can be and has been with us now for 33  years.
I know people do not want to say much about Jesus but he loves all of us and he died for us and if it were not for him we would all be dead as who is it that keeps your heart beating.
I have heard the saying that you are only 5 inches from death each day as that is how far, for most of us ,from our mouth down to our heart. God can heal and I am so glad that I know he can and not only that he can do all kinds of things for us.

911 AND THE CHICKENS

There are still a few people who love fresh eggs direct from the chickens. Some still have chicken coops and have fresh eggs every day and not have to go to the store and buy them. It looks like the chickens even go on strike as the price of the eggs keeps going up and up.
One of my friends was telling me about her son who has around 9 hens and a rooster. Now we know how mean a ole red rooster can be. But hens they are not that mean are they. Any way he was out in  the chicken pin feeding his chickens and he then tried to catch one of them. Of course the hen did not want to be caught. So it began pecking him and some of the other chickens came where he was at and must have done the same thing.
He heard sirens and looked up and they came and stopped at his house. Now what has happened. We all dread to see a cop car stop at our house. Or get that phone call around 3 or 4 in the morning. Knowing something has happened.
Out got the officers and wanted to know what was going on. We got a 911 call from your house.
He did not know what was going on inside as he was all right outside. So in the house they went and his wife was ok and so was his grandson.
He ask who called the cops. Not me said his wife. I did, said his grandson. Why did you call them.
I looked out the window and the chickens was pecking your hands and I thought they were going to hurt you so I was taught to call 911 if there is someone in trouble. Now the cops all knew them good and started laughing. Well we are all right so I guess you can chalk this up to a child learning and listening real good. lol. The cops was laughing as they were leaving.
Now just how old was this little boy, only 3 years old. So don't tell  me that small children can't learn real quick and listen to what everyone is saying. They may not tell you but they take everything in. lol..........

BEST FRYS TO BUY

Most all southern people love potatoes in any fashion or form. Fried is our best way of fixing them. I can say one thing I have a son-in-law that can fix some of the best fried potatoes you can put in your mouth and I have tried to copy him but just can't get them to come out tasting like his. lol.
He cuts them paper thin and then takes a small pancake turner and flips them and don't use a lid on his when frying.
Oh well, I have done the same thing but they never taste like his and he says that the Idho in the string bag is the only kind to buy. Well, me all I have is ole garden potatoes that have been planted in a garden just like the baged ones but they still don't taste like his. lol.
Now when it comes to french frys, I have tried all kinds of brands with different kinds of oil to fry them in. I have tried frying them in a fry daddy and a kettle on the stove but trust me a kettle will work just as good as a fry daddy but just watch the grease and not let it get to hot or it will explode without nothing in it.
And always, do not ever, leave it on the burner after you take the frys out as it is still hot, always, scoot it off the burner.
Anyway back to the frys. I have tried the expensive ones .The store brand ones and home frys and the best ones I have found is the Walmart brand , Great Value.
They get crisp and are not soggy and don't turn dark brown unless you let them fry to long. I just love them. I am not trying to promote them but they are just so good.
One fry leads to another and before you know it, you may have ate 15. lol. or more. lol.
I use Canola Oil to fry mine in. Some frys get to crisp and all you have is like a shell to eat. Some get to extra crispy.
But the Great Value frys will get done on the inside and crisp on the out. Just don't have the oil to hot.
If you use gas then keep it at a lower temp. I am just now learning how to use gas. I love it way better than electric. But watch out or you will sure have some burned hands grabbing hold of the handles on the pots and skillets without a pot holder.
Oh and if you like baked potatoes, just fix them in the oven and not try to microwave them. I like mine in the oven the best. I was trying to fix one for my grandaughter and put it on 10 minutes and had it wrapped in a wet paper towel. I left it in the oven after the timer went off as I was doing something else and when I got it out it was hard as a rock and my grandaughter said what is wrong with you mamaw can't you cook no more. That from a little one is sure embarrassing. lol. So I had to fix her another one and it was not done enough. So I will just stick to my ole time way.
Everybody loves my baked potatoes. But most people when putting the sour cream in just don't put enough and sure don't put enough butter. lol. We forget about the calories when eating them around here. To me nothing makes a baked potato no better than frying up some sliced green peppers and onions to put on top or use on the side with a hot baked potato and of course we have to have that shredded cheese all over the top..........

NASHVILLE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Well there was no snow this year in Nashville for Christmas but it sure was cold.
We all decided to go out and eat and go look at the Christmas lights. Don't know if you have ever heard of Lipton Lights (liptonlights.com)but it is a sight to go see. I think they have some over in Gatlinburg, Tn.
These lights go on and off to the music which you listen to in the car on your radio. I have never saw anything come up with this. There are around 8,500 lights and one house down in Franklin, Tn. had them on display.
You could sit half the night and just watch them. It is free but you can leave a donation in the box.
We also went to a display that a man had been doing this coming year will make 30 years. His son got killed in a car wreck and his son always loved to decorate with lights so his dad kept up the tradition and has added to it each year.
There is ever type of scenes that you can think of. Santa playing ball. Kids swinging. Kids seesawing. Kids going up ladders. Helicopters flying. So many that I can't remember them all. I have never saw so many different lights along with the scenes. There were car loads of people getting out and looking at all of it and even limo's coming in to look at this. The man that owned the house was out directing the traffic. That takes love to stay there 7 days of the week for around 6 hours each night for around 4 weeks doing this.
We then went and saw the house that won it for the best Christmas lights and it was something else also. Then we went on to another house that was lit up with more scenes then the one that won it.
I wish every child could just go see this. It is what Christmas is all about in a child's eyes. Of course we don't wont to forget the real meaning of Christmas but this is just something that is breath taking to see and you ohh and ahh all the time while looking at all of it. No matter how many times you go back and see it you will find something different to look at each time. So make plans if  you can to go check out the lights in the Nashville, Smyrna area next year. They are all close together and do not take a lot of driving to go see them.
